The flexibility of Dr Maria's Translation Tool means you only need to subscribe to the areas which are most relevant to you.

"Why do I need the different specialized modules?" Are they glossaries or dictionaries? The answer is NO. The translator and indeed interpreter have to face a multitude of different situations and cope with different fields that are specialized and will use language in a particular way. According to the findings of research I completed recently (Kasandrinou: 2007) translators that received a course of induction to a specialized field of translation experienced a significant increase in the productivity levels as well as the quality of their translated texts.

I have taken the key ingredients of that successful approach, which has already proven itself in practice, and further developed it to cater for the needs of the modern translator. Specialized training is not only desirable but essential. This is what is provided in the modules. The modules will give you the necessary specialized knowledge to work out the issues you face in your work or studies.

Presentation qualities

In your student years and even more in your professional years you will need at some point or as a matter of everyday work to speak in front of an audience. Whether you rejoice in this prospect or not, there are a number of things you must do and a number of things you must not do.

This category includes all the points and provides guidance and exercises for you to practice. You can follow the points in the order given or as you need them. However i do advice that you at least once go through them in the order as they will provide you with invaluable help in preparing the presenations or papers and in delivering them in the best possible way. I have (more often that i would like) been the witness of horrible presentations and paper deliveries. The worst of these came from well read and respected academics. This goes along way to demonstrate that status, knowledge and all these wonderful qualities have nothing to do with good public speaking skills and qualities.

You worked so hard to get here. A little more effort and attention will do your work a great favour and you will actually ENJOY presenations and public speaking
