Dr Maria goes live! (October 2008)
After a year in technical development and data compiling, Dr Maria’s subscription based online Translation Clinic finally goes live. Now for the first time, translation professionals and academics can take advantage of the power of Maria Kasandrinous research in developing teaching techniques to improve both the speed and quality of human translation.
Essentially the tool is a huge database of solutions waiting to be searched. Organised in convenient topic modules, Dr Maria’s Translation Clinic makes it very easy to resolve problems translators face. Instead of time consuming online research, asking colleagues, delving into forums, the resource in Dr Maria’s Translation Clinic means the solution and the essential bibliographic references are readily at hand.
In trials that took place in the UK and Europe, groups of both professional and student translators were tested on the use of the method. The results were significant enough to warrant a full development of an online tool. With an average of 28% increase in quality and speed, the financial gains and reputation gains for translators who subscribe to the tool will be very valuable.
Corporate groups and universities will be able to take advantage of specific group discounts to the subscription rates which were also published today. Rates are sensibly priced and include special rates for students and academics. For the full pricing and the list of modules available from launch, go to www.dr-maria.com.

Open Gate is an electronic only journal published by Dr Maria’s Translation Clinic. The articles that will be featured in the forthcoming issue (November 2008) are the result of a call for papers earlier in the year. “The response to the call for papers was amazing”. Comments Maria Kasandrinou, founder of Dr Maria’s Translation Clinic. “ I have been a subscriber to several journals in the past and always found them lacking in some way or another.
